Zitat mailinglist Medanthnet - EASA Media Anthropology Network vom 14.11.2019: The Department of Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a PhD scholarship within the project: ‘Stay CONNECTed: Digital technologies and rehabilitation in Danish dementia care’ The PhD will be placed at the Department of Anthropology and work closely together with the project team. The successful candidate will be employed from February 1st, 2020, or shortly thereafter. The PhD project The project is entitled ‘Imellem selvbestemmelse og omsorg - et antropologisk PhD studie af de sociale og etiske implikationer af brugen af alarm- og sensorbaserede teknologier i den kommunale demensomsorg’ and is co-finansed by the Velux Foundation, the Alzheimer Research Foundation and the Nordea Foundation. In recent years, new surveillance technologies such as GPS trackers, cameras and alarm mats, have been developed and installed in dementia care, in order to improve safety and security. At the same time, the regulative framework has been broadened, allowing better possibilities for health care workers to use these technologies. This project will explore the ethical and social implications of this techno-legal transformation, and how it has reconfigured dementia care. The project will be based on ethnographic fieldwork carried out in municipalities in Denmark, in close collaboration with the PI/supervisor, Associate Professor, Nete Schwennesen. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a MA degree in Anthropology or a related field, familiarity with medical anthropology and/or Science and Technology Studies (STS), and an interest in dementia care. Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written) will be a requirement, as well as an interest in participating in international research networks. The candidate will be part of the PhD program at the Department of Anthropology. The program provides PhD students with strong research training, which opens up a window of opportunity to a variety of careers within the private and public sectors. The program includes the drafting of a PhD thesis, active participation in research networks, PhD courses, and teaching and other forms of knowledge dissemination. The PhD process will be undertaken as a three-year full-time study within the framework of the 5+3 study program. It is expected that the candidate will apply for additional funding to cover expenses in relation to the project (fieldwork and research stay abroad) In order to be eligible for a scholarship in the 5+3 PhD study program the applicant must have completed a two year master’s degree program or have earned 120 ECTS credits at an equivalent academic level before starting his or her employment. PhD students are paid a salary in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The PhD student has a work obligation of up to 840 hours over the 3-year period of time without additional pay. The work obligation can for instance include teaching. The applicant is expected to know Danish well enough to be able to carry out fieldwork in Denmark.
